Use Quick Rule
Top  Previous  Next

Zoot lets you quickly create a rule based on the name of a folder. For example, suppose you create a folder named Urgent and you want this folder to collect items that have the word urgent in their <Subject> field. Zoot's Quick Rule feature provides a shortcut for doing this:

1. In the Folder Tree select the folder or group of folders you want to work with.

2. Right-click on the selected folders and choose Rule from the pop-up menu, then choose one of the following from the extended menu:

Subject Only
Select this option and Zoot will create a rule to pull in items that have the folder name somewhere in the <Subject> field.

Body Only
Select this option and Zoot will create a rule to pull in items that have the folder name somewhere in the item document.

Subject or Body
Select this option and Zoot will create a rule to pull in items that have the folder name somewhere in either the <Subject> field or the item document.

3. Zoot asks if you want to remove any explicitly assigned items from the folder. If you answer Yes, Zoot will remove any items you've assigned to the folder manually if they do not match the quick rule.

Zoot immediately creates a rule and then refreshes the contents of your folder. To edit the Quick Rule, click the Smart button and choose Rules from the pop-up menu.

Quick Rule Mode
If you intend to create a series of folders and you want a Quick Rule created for each one, you can enable Quick Rule mode:

1. Just above the Folder Tree, click on the small [QR] button. Zoot displays a pop-up menu.

2. From the pop-up menu, choose either <Subject Only>, <Body Only> or <Subject or Body>.

You can now create your folders. As you create each new folder, Zoot creates the appropriate rule using the folder name you type in. When you're finished creating folders, don't forget to turn off Quick Rule mode so that you don't inadvertently create rules in other folders.
