Shortcuts let you link a Zoot item to other resources on your computer. You can create shortcuts to Zoot folders and items, to files or file folders on your disk drive, and to Microsoft Outlook items or Microsoft Word documents.
Every item in a Zoot database has its own collection of shortcuts. To view the shortcuts attached to an item, click the big (Z) button located just above and to the left of the Item Editor. Zoot will display a pop-up menu listing any shortcuts currently attached to the item. Click on a shortcut to launch it. To view an item's Shortcut Collection in more detail or to edit individual shortcuts, choose Open Shortcuts Window from the pop-up menu.
Shortcuts are easy to create, you simply select, copy to the clipboard, then paste from the clipboard. For example, to create a shortcut to a folder, first select the folder, then choose Edit | Copy from Zoot's main menu to copy the folder to the clipboard as a shortcut. Next you select an item and choose Edit | Paste to paste the shortcut into the item's Shortcut Collection. To confirm the shortcut has been created, click the big (Z) button located just above the Item Editor (left side).
In some cases Shortcuts are created for you automatically. For instance, click the Link button located just above the Item Editor (right side) and you can create a new item which is linked to the currently selected item.
When synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook, Zoot creates shortcuts between the items in your Zoot database and the items in the corresponding Outlook folder. This lets you move between the items in the two programs effortlessly.
