Reminder Items
Top  Previous  Next

You can set a reminder for any Zoot item. A reminder can be set relative to the items <Date Start>, <Date End> or <Date Due> property or a reminder can be set relative to the current date/time.

When you set a reminder relative to the <Date Start>, <Date End> or <Date Due> property, the time interval you set (1 day, 2 days, 3 weeks, etc.) tells Zoot how far in advance you want to be reminded. If you set a reminder to go off 2 days before the item's start date and the start date is next Saturday, then the reminder will go off on Thursday; two days before Saturday.

When you set a reminder relative to the current date/time, the time interval you set tells Zoot how far in the future you want to be reminded. If you enter "3 weeks", the reminder will go off 3 weeks from now. If you enter "Next Wed", the reminder will go off next Wednesday.

To add a reminder to an item, follow these steps:

1. Select an item in one of your Zoot databases, then click the small Reminder button located just above the Item Editor on the right side (or press Ctrl+E).

2. Zoot opens the Reminder Dialog. Select the date to which your new reminder will be relative, either <Date Start>, <Date End>, <Date Due> or the current system date/time.

3. Click the date menu button [] and Zoot will display a pop-up menu of possible reminder options. Choose an option, then click the OK button to close the Reminder Dialog.

To view your new reminder (and all other reminders), choose View | Reminders from Zoot's main menu.

Notes:

·If you have not set a date/time for the <Date Start>, <Date End> or <Date Due> property of your item, the option to set a reminder relative to that date will be disabled.

·You can enter a date directly into the Reminder date/time edit box. In this case the reminder will be relative to the current date/time. For instance, if you type in "2 weeks 4pm" and press the Enter key, the reminder will be set for 2 weeks from now at 4:00pm.

·For shorter intervals, you can enter time values in shorthand format, as with "4h", to set a reminder for four hours from now, or "15m", to set a reminder for 15 minutes from now.

·You can enter a relative date and time directly into the Reminder date/time edit box. For instance, you can enter "Next Monday 5pm", to set a reminder for next Monday at 5 p.m.

·You can add a reminder column to a view and enter reminders directly in the column. In this case the reminder will always be set relative to the current system date/time. For instance, if you enter "in 2 weeks at 3pm" and press enter, Zoot will create a reminder for 2 weeks from today at 3pm.
