Shortcut (Definition)

Shortcuts let you link one item in a database to another item in the same database or in a different database. You can also create shortcuts to Zoot folders, Zoot databases, other files or file folders on your disk drives, and you can create shortcuts to Microsoft Outlook items and Microsoft Word documents.

Every item in a Zoot database can have its own collection of shortcuts. To view the shortcuts for an item, select the item and then click the big (Z) button located just above the Item Editor (left side). Zoot will display a pop-up menu listing any shortcuts attached to the item. Select a shortcut from the pop-up menu to launch it. To view an item's shortcut collection in more detail or to edit shortcuts, choose Open Shortcuts Manager from the pop-up menu (or right-click on the big (Z) button).

Shortcuts can be created several ways and in some cases they are created for you automatically. For instance, when you click the Link button located just above the Item Editor (right side), you can create a new item which is linked to the currently selected item. Also, when synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook, Zoot may create shortcuts between the items in the Zoot database and the items in Outlook, so that you have easy access to them.
