Filter (Definition)
Top  Previous  Next

When you click on a folder, the items in that folder are displayed in the Item Grid. Sometimes it is useful to filter out some of the items displayed in the Item Grid to make the list shorter and easier to work with. To filter out items in the Item Grid you apply a filter.

Quick Filter
To apply a simple word or phrase filter, click the Query menu and choose Quick Filter (or press Ctrl+Q twice), then type in a word or phrase. As with queries, the Boolean AND operator is implied unless you enclose the phrase in quotes. After you have typed in your word or phrase, press the Enter key to apply the filter and Zoot immediately updates the Item Grid, displaying only those items matching the filter. To remove the filter, click the Query menu and uncheck the Quick Filter menu item. Note that the icon next to the Quick Query box changes back to [?] to indicate that Quick Filter is no longer activated.

Tip: Pressing Ctrl+Q repeatedly toggles between Quick Query and Quick Filter mode.

Filtered Views
You can add a filter to a custom view in your database. To define a filter for a particular view, first apply the view to a folder, then click the Smart button and choose Filter from the popup menu. Once you've defined your filter it is applied to the active view. You can then apply the filtered view to any of the folders in your database.

Notes:

·To temporarily remove a filter from a view, click the Smart button and choose Filter | Ignore Filter. To remove a filter from a view entirely, choose Filter and then uncheck the checked filter in the extended menu.

·You can apply a temporary filter to the Item Grid using Quick Filter or using the Advanced Filter command found under the Query menu. These filters stay in effect for all folders until you turn off the filter.
