How Zoot Selects a Default Folder for Items
Top  Previous  Next

When you create an item while working in Zoot, you must first select a folder in which to create the item. Your new item will be explicitly assigned to the folder you select and may also be assigned to other folders (like the New Entries folder) based on folder rules.

When you use the Zooter to create an item, you do not have the opportunity to select a folder in which to create the item. In this case, Zoot looks for the first folder in your database Folder Tree that matches the type of item you are creating. For example, if you choose Zooter | New | Task to create a new Task item, Zoot will look for the first Task type folder in your Tasks database and make that the default folder for your item.

Examine the Desktop Databases (Tasks, Contacts, Calendar, etc.) and you will notice that each has a folder dedicated to new items. The Tasks database, for instance, has a folder called New Tasks. The Contacts database has a folder called New Contacts. These folders have been placed at the top of the Folder Tree so that new items created with the Zooter will find them.

Notice also that most databases have a Quick Notes folder at the top of the Folder Tree. If you choose Zooter | Quick Note | <DatabaseName>, Zoot creates a new item which is initially assigned to the Quick Notes folder in your database, because this is the first folder in the Folder Tree of the applicable type.

Tip: If you want an item created with the Zooter to be based on an item template, make sure its default folder uses a view with the desired item template association. Search help for Item Template for more information on associating an item template with a view.

Specifying a Different Default Folder
You can select a different default folder for a database if you wish. To specify a different default folder, follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the folder you want to make the default folder and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. Zoot displays the Folder Properties Dialog.

2. Check the "Make this the default folder" checkbox.
