Manage Databases
Top  Previous  Next

Database Manager helps you manage your database files. You can move them around, rename them and perform other file-related functions. You can also perform a variety of database synchronization functions here.

Zoot database files have a .ZOT file extension. To view your database files, click the Databases button on the toolbar to open Database Manager. Database Manager displays your database files in the file folders in which they reside on your disk drive. Assuming you installed Zoot on drive C: you will find the following folder structure when you open Database Manager:

...\Zoot Files\Database\Desktop
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Help
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Mail Room
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Startup

When you create a new project, Zoot automatically creates a new file folder for the project. For example, if you were to create a new project called "Music", the folder structure would look like this:

...\Zoot Files\Database\Desktop
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Help
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Mail Room
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Music
...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\Startup

For every project you create, there will always be a corresponding file folder on disk in which to store databases for the project. Note that all project file folders are created under the ...\Zoot Files\Database\Projects\ file folder. The Desktop file folder is a special folder dedicated to the storage of your Desktop Databases (Tasks, Calendar, Contacts, Mail, etc.).

Note: If you prefer to store your data in a location other than where you installed Zoot, you can specify a different data location. See the Advanced Options section in this help file for details.
