How to Create an Item While Working in Another Application
Top  Previous  Next

When working in another application, it is often more convenient to create an item without having to return to Zoot. To create an item while working in another application you use the Zooter. Access the Zooter by clicking the tiny (z) icon located in the System (Icon) Tray of the Windows Taskbar. When you click the Zooter, a pop-up menu of commands is displayed offering a variety of commands for creating new Zoot items:

New
Choose this command to create a new item from scratch. Zoot displays a pop-up menu of databases so that you can choose a target database.

Quick Clip
Select some text in the active document and choose this command to create an item using the selected text. The new item is created in a database you select via the Zooter Options Dialog.

Quick Note
Choose this command to create an item in the Quick Note folder of your database. The Quick Note folder is typically the folder located at the top of the Folder Tree.

Clip To
Select some text and choose this command to clip the selected text to one of your databases. Zoot displays a pop-up menu of databases so that you can choose a target database.

Send To
This command does not create a new Zoot item, but instead lets you send text you've selected in one application to another application. You can also use this command to send text to Microsoft Outlook. In this case a new Outlook item (Task, Contact, Appointment, Etc.) is created.

Clipboard Mode
This is a special mode of operation which, when activated, results in a new item created each time you copy text to the Windows clipboard. Clipboard Mode uses the same options you've set for Quick Clip (via the Zooter Options Dialog). Clipboard Mode is useful because you can create items by copying text to the Windows Clipboard. Typically you'll press Ctrl+A to select all text and Ctrl+C to copy the text to the clipboard. To activate Clipboard Mode, click the Zooter and choose Clipboard Mode from the pop-up menu. Zoot places a checkmark next to the menu item to indicate it has been activated. To turn off Clipboard Mode, remove the checkmark.

Notes:

·Click the Zooter and choose Options from the pop-up menu to customize the way the Zooter commands behave.

·When using the New command or the Quick Note command, if you select some text first, Zoot will include the text in your new item using the e-mail stye quotation prefix (>).

·When using the Quick Clip command or the Clip To command, if you do not select any text, Zoot will automatically select all of the text in the active document.

·When you create an item using the Zooter, the new item is initially assigned to the first folder in the database Folder Tree of the same type as the item being created. For example, if you create a new Task item using the Zooter | New command, the new task will be assigned initially to the first folder in the Folder Tree with a Task icon.
