When you click on a folder in a Zoot database, the items in that folder are displayed in the Item Grid. Sometimes it is useful to filter out some of the items displayed to make the list of items shorter and easier to work with. To filter out items in the Item Grid you apply a filter.
To apply a simple word or phrase filter, click the Query menu and choose Quick Filter (or press Ctrl+Q twice), then type in the word or phrase and press the Enter key. Zoot immediately updates the Item Grid, displaying only those items matching the filter. To remove a filter, click the Query menu and uncheck the Quick Filter menu item. Note that the icon next to the query input box changes back to [?] to indicate that the filter is no longer activated. To apply a more complex filter, click the Query menu and choose Advanced Filter.
To create a filter which stays in effect long term, click the Smart button and choose Filter | New Filter from the pop-up menu. In this case you are creating a Filtered View, that is, you are attaching a filter to a customized view, so any folders using the customized view will also have the filter applied.
