E-mail Synchronization
Top  Previous  Next

To synchronize one or more databases between two computers that are not networked using e-mail, follow these steps:

1. From Zoot's main menu, choose Tools | Synchronize | E-mail Sync. Zoot displays a list of databases. Place a checkmark next to the databases you wish to synchronize and click OK.

2. Zoot asks you to supply an e-mail address. Select an existing address or click the New button to add an e-mail address. Click OK to proceed.

3. Zoot asks you to supply additional information for the outgoing e-mail. You may enter a Subject line and a message. Make sure the Attach Selected Databases checkbox is checked. Click OK to proceed.

Zoot creates the synchronization update file (EZ.ZIP), then creates an e-mail message. If you are using Microsoft Outlook for e-mail, Zoot attaches the synchronization update file to the e-mail message automatically. If you are using some other e-mail software, Zoot will save the file to disk so that you can attach the file to your e-mail manually using your e-mail software's Insert File command.

The synchronization update file (EZ.ZIP) contains all of the data needed to update your databases on the remote computer. When you receive the file via e-mail at the remote location, follow these steps to complete the synchronization process:

1. Start Zoot if necessary.

2. If you are using Microsoft Outlook, simply synchronize your Mail database with your Outlook Inbox and Zoot will automatically detect the synchronization update file (EZ.ZIP) and initiate the synchronization process. If you are using some other e-mail program, save the synchronization update file to disk, then drag and drop it onto the Zoot Desktop (main application window). Zoot will automatically detect the file and initiate the synchronization process.
