Create a View
Top  Previous  Next

When you create a new folder in your database, you'll notice that initially the Item Grid always features the same set of columns, sorting, display and filter properties. This set of properties is known as the Default View. Every database has one default view and all new folders created in the database inherit this view by default. The Default View can be customized in each of your databases to best suit the kind of information likely to be stored in the database.

Sometimes you'll want to change the properties of the Item Grid without modifying the active view. In this case it makes sense to create a new view. When you create a new view, Zoot asks you to provide a name for the view and then creates it. The new view initially inherits all of the properties of the currently active view, you can then modify the new view to suit your particular needs.

To create a new view, follow these steps:

1. On the toolbar click the Smart button and choose View | New View from the pop-up menu.

2. Zoot asks you to provide a name for the view. Accept the name Zoot suggests or type in a different name. Zoot also gives you the option of preserving the characteristics of the active view or starting from scratch with just a <Subject> column and the system default characteristics.

Click OK to continue and Zoot creates your new view. You can begin modifying the view immediately, just click the Smart button and choose Filter, Columns, Display or Sorting from the pop-up menu.
