Create a Project

If you intend to create a number of related databases, you may want to create a new project first so that all of the related databases are stored in the same file folder on your disk drive and are grouped together in the menu Zoot displays whenever you need to select a database for some activity.

For instance, suppose you intend to create a number of databases devoted to music. In this case you might want to create a project called Music first, then create your databases. This way all of the databases will be grouped in the same Music file folder.

Tip: Zoot also gives you the option of grouping your databases by project after the fact. In this case you simply create the Music project and then move your existing databases over to the Music file folder manually using Windows Explorer or some other file manager.

When you create a project a number of things occur:

·Zoot asks you for a name for the new project.
·Zoot creates a file folder using the name you provide.
·Zoot creates a new database using the name you provide (adding a .ZOT file extension).
·Zoot opens both the new project and the new database.

At this point any new databases you create will be added to the new project and will reside in the corresponding project file folder on disk.

To create a project follow these steps:

1. From the main menu, choose File | New | Project.

2. Zoot asks you to name the new project. Type in a name and click OK or press the Enter key.

Zoot creates a new file folder and a new database using the name you provide. The new project and the new database are both opened. At this point you can create new databases in the project or add existing databases to the project.

Notes:

·To create a new database in the project, choose File | New | Database from Zoot's main menu.

·To add an existing database to the project, click Project on the toolbar to open Project Manager. Next highlight the databases you want to add in the left pane and click the [>] button in the center to add them to the list of project databases in the right pane. When you're finished click the [X] button in the top right corner (or press the Esc key) to close Project Manager.

·To remove databases from the active project, simply reverse the steps above. Don't worry, removing a database from a project does not delete the database from disk.

·To quickly switch to another project, right click the Open button on the toolbar and choose the project you want to open from the pop-up menu.
