Create a Database Template
Top  Previous  Next

When you create a database, Zoot asks you to choose from a list of templates. Your new database will be based on the template you choose, that is, the new database will inherit all of the folders, rules, actions and views from the database template.

At some point you may devise a database with a set of characteristics that you'd like to be able to reuse. To do this you create a database template.

To create a database template, follow these steps:

1. Open the database from which the template is to be generated.

2. From the main menu, choose File | Save | Save as Template.

3. Zoot asks you to supply a name for the database template. Enter a descriptive name and click the OK button.

4. Zoot asks if you want to include any items from the database in your template. If No if you do not want items included in your template. The template will still include all folders, rules, actions and views.

Zoot creates your template. The next time you create a database, the new template will be included in the template list.

Edit an Existing Template

To modify an existing template, follow these steps:

1. Create a new database based on the template you wish to modify.

2. Modify the new database as desired.

3. From the main menu, choose File | Save | Save as Template.

4. Zoot asks you to supply a name for the database template. Enter the name of the original template and click the OK button. Zoot will report that a template with that name already exists and ask if you want to overwrite the existing template. Answer Yes.

At this point you may want to close the database you created in step 1 and then use Database Manager or Windows Explorer to delete it.
