Assign Values to Item Properties
Top  Previous  Next

In addition to folders and categories, values can be assigned to most item properties. To assign values to item properties, use one of the following:

·The Modify Menu
·The Item Properties Dialog
·A Property Column

To assign a value to an item property using the Modify Menu:

1. In the Item Grid, right click on the item you want to work with.

2. From the pop-up menu select Modify | <Value>, where <Value> is the property value you want to modify. This pop-up menu lets you assign values to the most frequently used item properties. If the property you seek is not shown, click More.

To assign a value to an item property using the Item Properties Dialog:

1. Right click on the item you want to work with and choose Properties from the pop-up menu. Zoot displays the Item Properties Dialog.

2. Click on each of the item properties for which you want to set a value. Click the OK button when you are finished.

To assign a value to an item property using a Property Column:
It is often useful to expose a certain subset of item properties when working with the items in a particular folder. This makes it easier to assign values to these properties. To do this you add item property columns to the Item Grid. This process is called customizing a view.

1. On the toolbar click the Smart button and choose Columns from the pop-up menu.

2. Zoot displays the Columns Dialog. Click the Add button to add a column.

Repeat this process for each property you want to view in a column. When you're finished adding columns, close the Columns Dialog and Zoot will update the Item Grid to reflect the changes.

To assign a value to a property in a column, click directly on the column. Zoot will enter in-place editing mode. To move from one column to the next, press the Tab key (or Shift+Tab to reverse direction).

If you click on a column and Zoot displays a list of possible values, use the up and down arrow keys to highlight an item from the list and press the spacebar to select a value. To end the editing session press the Enter key.

Notes:

·When you change the way items are displayed in the Item Grid by adding columns or by changing sorting options and the like, you are creating a customized view. Customized views can be shared among folders so that you do not have to customize each and every folder in your database. To learn more about customized views, refer to the section on views in this help file.

·To change the way data is formatted in a column, right-click the column on the Column Headings Bar (top of the Item Grid) and choose Edit Column Field from the pop-up menu. You can also edit fields using Field Chooser. Click the Smart button and select Field Chooser from the pop-up menu.
