Anatomy of a Smart Folder
Top  Previous  Next

Every Zoot database has a hierarchical tree of folders. The folders in the tree all look pretty much the same at first glance, but some of these folders are Smart Folders. Smart Folders have been given instructions on how to process information in a database. Rules and Actions are the two components that tell a Smart Folder how to process information.

Rules - tell a Smart Folder which information in your database is to be processed. For example, a rule can tell a Smart Folder to process only information that contains certain key words or phrases.

Actions - tell a Smart Folder what to do with items assigned to it. For example, an action can tell a Smart Folder to change the color of an item to red.

Working together, rules and actions perform information processing tasks for you. To change the way a Smart Folder behaves, simply click on the folder you wish to modify, then click the Smart button and choose the appropriate command (either Rules or Actions).
