A project is simply a collection of databases. The active project represents the collection of databases most important to you at any given time. When you create a new database or open an existing database it is added to the active project automatically so that you can easily access the database again in the future.
The first time you run Zoot, the program automatically creates a default project for you called Startup, along with a project database called Startup.zot. This will be the active project each time you start Zoot unless you create a new project or open a different project. The project database Startup.zot will always be the first database to open unless you select a different project database.
Projects take on more importance as you begin to create new databases and the total number of databases you work with increases. If you have created many databases, projects let you divide them into smaller groups, thereby limiting the number of databases currently "in focus" at any given time.
Every project has a corresponding file folder on your disk drive. New databases you create are automatically stored in the file folder corresponding to the active project unless you specify a different location during the creation process. For instance, if the active project is Startup and you create a new database, the new database will be created on disk in the Startup file folder.
Tip: To see your project file folders and their location in relation to other file folders on your disk drive, click the Databases button on the toolbar to open Database Manager, or press F8 to view the folders using Windows Explorer.
